Inshore

The inshore fishing around Costa Rica is most well known for the Roosterfish, whose bite is good throughout the year. June through October is the best time to catch large fish, but Roosterfish from 20 to 80 pounds are caught every month of the year. Hold on because these guys are strong. To find them, look for their bait near inshore rocks, reefs, and in the surf. You can catch them with lures, spoons, ballyhoo rigs, on the fly, or by using a downrigger or planer.

Several species of Snapper are also found on the Pacific coast. Cubera Snapper between 50 and 80 pounds are common. They are caught by casting live bait into rock and reef or by slow trolling live bait in the same area. They can be caught with lures and poppers if you are lucky. They are known to break off your line, so crank your drag down and reel as fast as possible when you hook one, before they get back to the rocks.
